Definition
亦 (yì) is a formal, literary adverb meaning 'also, as well' — it is the written equivalent of the everyday spoken 也 (yě). You will encounter it in formal writing, news, and set phrases, but not in casual conversation. Unlike 还 (hái) and 又 (yòu), it carries no additional meanings of 'still' or 'again'.
