争论 (zhēng lùn) means 'to argue or debate' and usually involves exchanging differing opinions with some reasoning. It is more neutral and less emotional than 争吵 (zhēng chǎo, to quarrel), and less formal than 辩论 (biàn lùn, a structured debate in a competition or meeting).
