Definition
争光 (zhēng guāng) means 'to win honor for / bring glory to' someone (family, country, school) and is always used with 为 (wèi). It differs from 争气 (zhēng qì), which means 'to live up to expectations / not let someone down' through effort. 争光 is a separable verb (离合词): you can insert 了 or other elements, e.g., 争了光.
