Definition
了事 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning to finish up a matter, often hastily or perfunctorily. It carries a slightly negative connotation of just getting it done without care. As a verb-object compound, 了 can be separated from 事 by aspect markers (了了事), complements (了不了事), or other elements.
