Definition
书记 (shū jì) is the chief official of a Communist Party organization (e.g., party secretary), a leadership role. It differs from 秘书 (mì shū), which is an administrative assistant or clerical secretary, not a leadership position. The historical sense 'clerk; scribe' is now rare.
