乡村 (xiāngcūn) refers to both 'rural area' and 'village', often with a traditional or scenic feel. Compared to the more agricultural and administrative 农村 (nóngcūn), 乡村 is slightly warmer and more evocative of the countryside as a setting. For the 'village' sense, 乡村 is more formal than the simple 村 (cūn), which is commonly used in village names.
