九宫 (jiǔ gōng) is a term with multiple meanings in Chinese culture. In ancient music theory, it refers to the nine modes (modes of the twelve pitch pipes). In Chinese cosmology and feng shui, it refers to the Nine Palaces, a nine-grid pattern used for divination and spatial arrangement. It also appears in mathematics as the magic square (九宫格).
