Definition
之所以 (zhī suǒ yǐ) is a conjunction used in the pattern 之所以...是因为... to explicitly state 'the reason why X is because Y'. It differs from 所以 (suǒ yǐ), which simply means 'so, therefore' and introduces a result, not a reason. 之所以 always pairs with 是因为 to give the cause after stating the effect.
