Definition
之上 is a formal suffix used after a noun or a nominal phrase to mean 'on top of', 'above', or 'beyond'. It indicates a physical position higher than something, or an abstract sense of being superior, transcending, or extending beyond a certain point. It is equivalent to 'above' but has a more formal, literary feel compared to 上面. Common in written Chinese and set phrases like 在此之上 ('on this basis') or 财富之上 ('beyond wealth').
