义勇军 refers to a volunteer army, most famously the Chinese People's Volunteer Army that fought in the Korean War (1950–1953). The term also appears in the title of China's national anthem, 'March of the Volunteers' (义勇军进行曲). It carries strong patriotic and historical connotations.
