中医 (Zhōng yī) refers to the traditional Chinese medical system (theory, diagnosis, treatment) and also a practitioner of that system. It contrasts with 中药 (zhōng yào), which means the actual medicinal substances (herbs, formulas), and with 医学 (yī xué), which is the general field of medical science (any tradition).
