Definition
丢人 means 'to lose face' or 'to be embarrassing' and is the everyday word for social shame. It's very close to 丢脸 (also 'lose face'), but 丢人 is a separable verb (丢了人) and often used as an exclamation ('真丢人!'). Unlike 出丑, which describes making a specific fool of oneself, 丢人 focuses on the resulting shame.
