Definition
上调 (shàngtiáo) means 'to raise (prices, wages, rates, etc.)' and is used when an authority or organization makes an official upward adjustment. It contrasts with 上涨 (shàngzhǎng), which describes prices or values rising on their own (e.g., 'prices are rising'), and 涨价 (zhǎngjià), which focuses on a price increase for goods. 上调 is deliberate and institutional; 上涨 and 涨价 are market-driven or general.
