上诉 (shàng sù) is a legal term meaning 'to appeal a judicial case to a higher court'. It is distinct from 申诉 (shēn sù), which is a broader complaint to any authority (not just a court), and from 呼吁 (hū yù), which is a public call for action, not a legal procedure.
