上文 refers to the part of a text that appears earlier, typically above the current point in a document. It is a formal, written term used in academic, legal, and official contexts. You use it when referring back to something already mentioned, as in 上文提到 ('as mentioned above') or 见上文 ('see above'). Do not confuse it with 上面 (for physical location) or 之前 (for past time).
