Definition
上帝 is the standard Chinese term for the monotheistic God (as in Christianity, Judaism, Islam), adapted from the ancient Chinese concept of a supreme deity. In modern usage, it also appears in secular idioms like 用户是上帝 ('the customer is God') to stress supreme service. Note that in traditional Chinese folk religion, 上帝 can refer to the Jade Emperor, but in everyday language it almost always means the Christian God.
