Definition

上升 (shàng shēng) is a general verb meaning 'to rise, go up, ascend' — it can be used for temperature, prices, planes, etc. It is broader than 上涨 (shàng zhǎng), which is only for prices/values, and 升温 (shēng wēn), which is only for temperature. Unlike the directional verb 上去 (shàng qù), 上升 does not imply movement away from the speaker; it simply describes an upward change.
