Definition
一阵风 literally means 'a gust of wind', but it is often used figuratively with 似的 to describe someone or something moving very fast or acting in a sudden, brief burst—similar to 'like a whirlwind' in English. Despite the noun part of speech, it commonly appears as an adverbial phrase (一阵风似的) to modify verbs of motion (跑、走、冲等). Note that 一 in the citation form is yī, but in natural speech it changes to yí before the fourth-tone 阵.
