Definition
一品 originally referred to the highest rank in the imperial Chinese civil service hierarchy (a nine-rank system). Today it is used as an adjective-like noun meaning 'top-grade' or 'first-class'—often seen in product names or descriptions to indicate premium quality, such as 一品茶 ('top-grade tea') or 一品锅 ('one-pot soup/steamboat' as a dish name). The two senses—historical rank and modern top-grade—are related through the idea of 'first degree'.
