Definition
一下 (yí xià) follows a verb to show the action is brief or to soften the tone — think 'wait a moment' or 'take a look'. Unlike 一点儿 (before nouns/adjectives) or 有点儿 (before adjectives), 一下 attaches directly to verbs. It also means 'suddenly', but that sense is less common at HSK1.
